Naga Political Groups Condemn IED Blast in Chümoukedima

Kohima: The Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups condemned a suspected IED blast that occurred near Khovanalla in Chümoukedima district on July 13. The group labeled the attack an unforgivable provocation against all residents of Nagaland regardless of their political or social background.

The perpetrators must own their actions. Convener N Kitovi Zhimomi and the Co-conveners issued a stern statement on Wednesday. They called the detonation a sign that destructive minds want to derail the Indo-Naga peace process. "The IED detonation is a clear indication that there are vicious, destructive minds challenging both the Naga people and the Government of India," the leaders stated.

Violence is rising. The Committee expressed fear that these attackers want to drag Nagaland into the type of chaos currently unfolding in Manipur. Such a scenario would be a stain on history. The group maintains that all signatory Naga political groups follow strict ceasefire ground rules.

The leadership highlighted their adherence to the Geneva Call’s three Deeds of Commitment signed by Kitovi Zhimomi in Switzerland on July 10, 2014. These commitments pledge to protect children, ban anti-personnel mines, and stop sexual violence. They argue that political talks have successfully wrapped up and they await a final, honorable solution with India. The Committee warned that anyone using violence will face the wrath of the people.
