Agartala: Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury donated Rs 1 lakh to save 23-month-old Manashree Choudhury from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. He handed the cheque to the girl's father, Dhruba Choudhury, on Friday. The child faces a race against time. She turns two on September 3. Doctors must administer the gene therapy drug Zolgensma before that deadline to save her life.
The treatment carries a massive price tag. Costs reach Rs 14 to 16 crore, though lower import duties could drop the bill to Rs 8 or 9 crore. Donors have raised roughly Rs 5.5 to 6 crore so far. A major shortfall remains. Manashree needs to travel out of state at least 15 to 20 days before the treatment date.
Pinaki Das Choudhury urged the public to help. "Society's greatest strength lies in its unity. Every contribution, no matter how small, can pave the way for Manashree's recovery," he said. Dhruba Choudhury echoed this desperate call for aid. "This is our only chance. If the treatment is given in time, my daughter can live a normal life. I appeal to everyone to come forward with compassion and help us," he stated. The single-dose infusion remains the only path to restore the child to a normal life.
