Agartala: Tripura achieved full health coverage for its entire population. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the milestone at a BJP Barjala Mandal committee meeting. The state uses the central PM-JAY program alongside the state-funded CM-JAY to reach every citizen. The government settled Rs 307 crore in claims under the central scheme and Rs 50 crore through the state initiative.
Healthcare capacity is growing fast. The Agartala Government Medical College hit 131st place nationally. MBBS seats climbed to 500, with 50 more pending. Dr. Saha laid the foundation for a new medical college in Ambassa. The Bandhan Group plans to expand that site from 50 to 100 seats. A new civil hospital opened in Agartala, and officials expect Homeopathic and Ayurvedic colleges to start in Agartala and Udaipur next term.
Saha highlighted the broader state progress. Tripura earned over 360 national awards for development. The government is pushing spiritual tourism with a 51-Shakti Peetha project in Udaipur and transforming the historic Pushpabanta palace into a luxury hotel. Saha plans to head to Delhi Monday to speak on the state's growth.
He challenged party workers to elevate the Barjala Mandal into a model for the state. He warned against negative political habits, urging staff to prioritize public-friendly work. He also attacked opposition parties for blocking education bills. "Tripura has emerged as the only state in the country which has ensured hundred percent coverage under universal health cover," Saha said. He compared the state's strategy to Sikkim, noting that building new universities is essential to keep students from leaving.
