Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha opened the seven-day Kharchi Puja on Wednesday at the historic Chaturdash Devta Temple in Khayerpur. The festival, which honors fourteen deities, runs through July 28. It represents a deep, long-standing spiritual tradition.
Devotees celebrate the worship of Har, Uma, Hari, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik, Ganesha, Brahma, Prithvi, Samudra, Ganga, Agni, Kamdev, and Himadri. While three deities remain in year-round worship, the full group appears only during this event. The Chantai, or chief priest, leads the rituals following centuries-old customs.
Saha highlighted the temple's growth as a major religious tourism hub. He emphasized the government's dual focus on infrastructure and heritage. "I offer my deepest respect to Chaturdash Devta and pray for happiness, peace, good health, prosperity and the overall welfare of the people of Tripura," he said. The fair features 22 exhibition stalls and performances by artists from across India. This year, the event promotes environmental awareness under the theme Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.
Separately, on July 23, Saha backed a federal plan to establish fast-track courts for handling question paper leak cases. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this move, calling it a transformative step for the nation's youth. The Chief Minister stated that these courts will protect the merit and hard work of millions of students. He believes swift, strict justice is essential to restore faith in competitive examinations. "By bringing in fast-track courts, the government has ensured greater hope, fairness and transparency for hardworking students across the nation," the Chief Minister said.
