Aizawl: Mizoram launched the Green Schools League on September 1. This statewide competition targets better hygiene and environmental habits for students. The Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation department and the School Education department organized the effort under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. Events will happen across block, district, and state levels.
UD and PA Minister K Sapdanga kicked off the program. He wants to build a lasting culture of cleanliness in daily student life. While the event offers cash prizes, the main goal is teaching kids to care for their schools and homes. Sapdanga noted: "Cleanliness and hygiene are primary indicators of development and progress. The initiative aims to deeply root the desire for cleanliness in students, moulding them to become leaders in keeping their schools, homes, and communities clean."
School Education Minister Vanlalthlana joined the launch. He highlighted that Mizo youth already lead voluntary clean-up drives in neglected areas. He wants the public to keep up the momentum so the state stays clean for visitors. Teachers must lead by example. The School Education department pledged full support to ensure the league succeeds.

Sapdanga pushed the idea that keeping the state clean is a shared duty, noting that adults carry as much responsibility as kids for the environment handed down to future generations. He added that the league aims to lock in these hygiene routines so they stick with students well into their adult lives.

The program is officially titled the Mizoram Green Schools League. Government officials confirmed the competition explicitly targets long-term habits that extend into adulthood.
