Imphal: Chandel Forest Division gathered 1,500 students at St. Paul Higher Secondary School in Liwa Changning today. The event marked World Animal Day and World Habitat Day during India's annual Wildlife Week, which runs from October 2 to 8. Divisional Forest Officer Dr. N. Munal Meitei organized the assembly alongside school principal Benjamin Khudai and Range Forest Officer N. Deepa.
Dr. Munal urged the youth to respect nature. He focused on this year's theme, "See the World through their Eyes." He told the crowd that humans must understand the pain of animals and their essential role in keeping the earth in balance. Human activity destroys natural spaces, and artificial fixes cannot undo that damage.
The event highlighted the interconnected nature of survival. Dr. Munal noted that mankind relies on other species for food, shelter, and health. He explained that World Habitat Day, observed every first Monday in October, defends the right to adequate housing for both people and creatures. Habitat loss, food insecurity, and climate change pose major threats today. Protecting land saves wildlife, preserves the ecosystem, and boosts local tourism.
