Manipur Launches Statewide Cleanup for National Cleanliness Day

Imphal: Manipur marked National Cleanliness Day and the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign on October 2. Government offices, hospitals, and schools across the state participated in mass cleanup efforts. The state wants better hygiene.

In Imphal, the 86 Battalion CRPF teamed up with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and Lamphel Police Station. They scrubbed the RIMS Hospital grounds. This effort fell under the Manipur-Nagaland Sector of the CRPF and Commandant Saurabh Kumar Choudhary.

The Kakching District Administration held a drive at the DC Office Complex. Workers from the Kakching Municipal Council and local departments joined in. Cleanup crews hit the MSPDCL, PWD, MSRLM, ITI, Sub-Treasury, Horticulture, and Soil Conservation offices. The Zonal Education Office oversaw work at local schools.

Chandel saw heavy activity under Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley. Teams cleaned the Mini Secretariat, Multipurpose Hall, Japhou Bazaar, and the District Hospital. The NITI Aayog building and various SDO offices also received attention. Staff in Chandel and Chakpikarong cleared their jurisdictions. Banks and colleges joined the push.

Bishnupur officials worked at the Mini Secretariat under Additional Deputy Commissioner Toijam Opendro. Staff cleared office grounds. The SDO in Moirang, Chirom Somerendro, led a separate effort at that campus. The state says these initiatives seek to "promote cleanliness, hygiene and environmental awareness while encouraging collective responsibility among government personnel and the public."
