Guwahati: Police in Assam are managing two separate, high-profile missing persons cases. In the Dima Hasao district, two 10-year-old boys have vanished. Giyan Singh, son of Santush Singh, and Rajbir Choudhury, son of Paban Choudhury, were last seen on July 24 at 4 pm. The boys left their homes in Ballas Saiding Part I to play near their locality and never returned. Local residents and families conducted exhaustive searches before filing an FIR at the Maibang Police Station. Authorities have requested that anyone with information regarding the children contact the station immediately.
Separately, the state is marking two years since the disappearance of legendary composer Ramen Barua. The artist left his Latasil residence on July 22, 2024, heading toward the local Ganesh Temple. He never arrived. His daughter attempted to reach him by phone that afternoon, but the device was switched off. A search operation involving police, family, and singer Zubeen Garg yielded only one clue: a CCTV frame showing Barua in his signature white clothing. Police investigators eventually concluded he left of his own accord, potentially driven by private grief.
The community recently gathered at Barua's historic residence to hold a cultural program titled Samaloy. Organized by the All Guwahati Students Union and the Latasil Ganesh Mandir Development Committee, the event served as both a tribute to his legacy and a plea for his return. Barua’s work, particularly his 1969 film score for Dr. Bezbarua, redefined regional cinema. Fans often refer to his home by saying, “This is the home of Dwipen Barua and Ramen Barua.” Despite the passage of time, admirers continue to wait for the maestro, holding onto the hope that he might return.
