Thieves Target Historic Kali Temple in Assam's Dima Hasao

Guwahati: Thieves hit the Sarbajanin Anandamayi Kalibari in Maibang overnight. They stripped the historic site of gold and silver ornaments, leaving the idol of Goddess Kali without its crown. The intruders also walked off with brass utensils used in religious rituals. Established in 1957, this temple is one of the oldest in the Dima Hasao district.

Locals are fed up. A string of thefts has plagued Maibang in recent months, targeting multiple temples in the area. Residents previously filed police complaints for similar crimes, yet the suspects remain free. They want results. One resident noted that, "police action and the recovery of the stolen valuables are expected to be closely watched by residents as concerns grow over the recurrence of such incidents in Maibang."

Tensions are mounting in town. Residents now demand that the police and district administration track down the thieves immediately. They are calling for tighter security at all religious sites to stop the crime wave. The community waits for an update on the investigation.
