Guwahati: Two families in Assam's Lakhimpur district are grieving after their kin met separate disasters while seeking work in distant states. Pradeep Gogoi of No. 4 Nimuri village disappeared in Odisha on August 6. He was riding the 22504 Down Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Superfast Express toward Bengaluru.
Gogoi stepped off the train at Bhubaneswar railway station. He failed to get back on before it pulled away. Fellow passengers urged him to catch a local train at 9 pm that night. He went silent shortly after. His family confirmed his mobile phone is now switched off. Pradeep is a father of two. His relatives are pleading for any information that might reveal his current location.
Tragedy struck a different family just two days earlier. Bitul Gogoi of Ujani Phukan Gaon died in Kerala on August 4. Preliminary reports indicate he fell from a moving train. Local officials have yet to confirm the exact details of the incident. The family is left with few answers. These incidents highlight the dangers workers face when leaving Assam for employment, as families described the situation as "renewed concerns over the difficulties and risks" inherent in their search for a living.
