Agartala: Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy spent Friday in Unakoti district, prepping for Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha's upcoming August 7 visit. Roy led an administrative meeting at the District Magistrate's office in Kailashahar alongside District Magistrate Megha Jain. They hammered out logistics, security, and public interface plans for the tour.
The minister then turned his attention to the region's correctional facilities. He visited the under-construction district jail at Jaruilthal, where work stalled for years has finally resumed. Roy confirmed the project should finish by December. "The project is targeted for completion by December this year," Roy told reporters following talks with engineers and staff.
He also toured the current district jail in Kailashahar. Plans include building a new boundary wall to tighten perimeter security. Once inmates transfer to the Jaruilthal facility, the state will repurpose the old site. Roy promised to prioritize local resident feedback before deciding how to use the vacated land for public welfare.
