Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar slammed the assault on Border Security Force personnel in Sonamura. The trouble started November 2. BSF troops stopped a man suspected of running illegal cross-border deals. The suspect suffered injuries. Locals got angry. A protest formed and cut off the road.
Two other BSF men drove into the mess. They had no clue about the earlier fight. The mob intercepted them and dealt serious injuries. Police have locked up ten suspects for four days, including two or three women. Sarkar wants the law followed.
Sarkar spoke clearly about the violence. "If any BSF personnel had committed wrongdoing, the aggrieved individuals should have approached the nearest police station and lodged a formal complaint instead of taking the law into their own hands," he stated. He is pushing the police and BSF to work together on an investigation to piece together exactly how the violence spiraled out of control.
