Agartala: Security forces stopped a massive cash shipment near the India-Bangladesh border on September 29. A joint team involving the 81 Battalion Border Security Force, Customs Department, and Tripura Police pulled over an Eco Van in Motinagar. The vehicle, tagged TR01BZ0219, carried 24.50 lakh in Bangladeshi currency. Authorities intercepted the van near a BSF camp at 11.30 am.

Police detained the driver, 38-year-old Tapas Sarkar. He lives in North Kalamchoura under the jurisdiction of the Kalamchoura Police Station in Sepahijala district. The team moved the suspect and the cash to the Customs Department for processing. Investigators believe the van was headed from Bishalgarh toward the Sonamura subdivision.

Customs Superintendent Alok Kumar is leading the probe into the origins and the destination of the funds. Officials are looking for links to illegal border smuggling routes. "We are investigating the matter to find out the actual reason behind the movement of such a large amount of Bangladeshi currency," Alok Kumar said. The agency continues to search for other people connected to the illicit cash movement.
