Landslides choke Nagaland highway as restoration stalls

Kohima: Traffic is crawling along National Highway-702A between Satakha and Kilomi village. Mudslides and falling rocks continue to hammer the route. Officials report that a narrow section is open, but full restoration remains at least a week away.

Rain keeps triggering new debris piles. Clearing the road has become a constant, grueling loop. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Satakha, Meiazungba Jamir, confirmed that crews and heavy machines have been working around the clock for five days. Jamir noted, "Clearing the huge volume of landslide debris could take more than a week if weather conditions do not improve."

Nagaland State Transport buses and private cars are using the stretch under strict supervision. The executing company has promised to keep gear on-site until the road is safe. For now, drivers should take extreme caution. Authorities suggest using alternative routes for light vehicles until the path is clear.
