Kohima: The Kohima Village Youth Organisation wants every person living in the city officially counted in the district's 2026 census. The group submitted a formal memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on July 14. They demand that all residents register their details within Kohima district to fix existing demographic gaps.
The KVYO argues that the city acts as the state capital and administrative headquarters. It offers heavy public resources and welfare benefits to everyone living there. Many people move to Kohima for work but keep their census registration elsewhere. The organization claims this creates an "undocumented strain" on the city's infrastructure and services.
A verification drive should now follow to ensure welfare schemes reach the right people. Officials must protect the city's administrative integrity. The group warned they would "vehemently oppose" the continued access to subsidies and privileges for anyone who refuses to register locally. They maintain it is unfair to use city resources without being counted as part of the population. The KVYO expects the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate and decisive action on these requirements.
