Kohima: Residents gathered at the Multi Utility Hall in the Gorkha Public Panchayat Complex, Chandmari, on the evening of August 25. The event marked Balidan Diwas 2026. The Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima hosted the service alongside Gorkha Nagas, local clubs, and Jatiya Sansthas to honor the sacrifices of Major Durga Malla and Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse.
Kohima Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem served as the chief guest. He addressed the room with a somber message. He said, "Martyrs’ Day was not merely an occasion for remembrance but also a time for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to the values for which the martyrs laid down their lives." Buchem noted that modern peace stands on the work of those who put duty before self.
The deputy commissioner praised the Gorkha community for their history of discipline, loyalty, and service to India. He specifically recognized their role in the security and social development of Kohima and Nagaland. He challenged young people to build a just, inclusive society.
Speakers included Bharati Chinhal, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, and Neisielie Kenguruse, the father of the late Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse. GPPK president Santu Thapa gave the welcome address. Karishma Baraily performed music for the crowd. Ranjeet Lama, an advisor for the GPPK, provided the vote of thanks.
