KVYO Demands Mandatory Census Registration for All Kohima Residents

Kohima: The Kohima Village Youth Organisation wants every person living in the state capital to register for the 2026 census within the district. On July 14, the group submitted a formal memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima to force the issue. They want to stop residents from dodging the local count.

KVYO president Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome and general secretary Vikuonyü Solo signed the document. They argue that Kohima provides essential amenities and public resources to everyone who lives and works there. Many people treat the city as their primary home but refuse to register locally. This creates a fake demographic picture and puts an "undocumented strain" on city resources.

The group demands a verification drive to fix how welfare schemes and civic benefits are handed out. They want to ensure these perks only go to those officially counted as part of the local population. If residents refuse to register, the organization plans to block their access to subsidies and city privileges.

"We cannot support the distribution of city resources to those who refuse to be officially counted as part of its population," the leaders stated. The organization urged the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate and decisive action to protect the administrative integrity of Kohima. They view this move as vital for managing the city's future.
