Kohima: The Global Shapers Community Kohima Hub is set to host the Run for Hope 2026 on September 10. The 5-kilometer event hits the pavement at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, starting at 4:30 AM. It coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day to push for better community support systems.
Organizers announced the event September 2 at Fifa Restaurant. Registration costs Rs 100, with every rupee going to NGOs focused on mental health. Dr. Kivi Swu, the hub’s impact officer, noted the network connects changemakers aged 18 to 30. Swu said, "Our work is rooted in the belief that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow—we are also capable of creating meaningful solutions and impact today."
Project lead and psychologist Rovikhono Savino explained the theme, Every Step Gives Hope. She wants to kill the stigma surrounding mental health. The run invites anyone aged 18 and older to participate. As Savino put it, "The challenge is not simply whether mental-health services exist. It is whether people feel safe enough to reach out, whether families know how to respond, and whether communities can have these conversations without judgement or stigma."
Over 90 people have already signed up. Marketing strategist Imlikokla Jamir said the response is promising. Winners in both amateur and professional categories for men and women will take home cash prizes: Rs 7,000 for first, Rs 5,000 for second, and Rs 3,000 for third. The deadline to register is September 8.
