Kohima: Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem ordered an immediate crackdown on pig movement in Kohima. Laboratory reports from the Chief Veterinary Officer confirmed African Swine Fever at Peducha Village, Phezoucha L Khel, P Khel of Kohima Village, and the Razha area near the Dzü-ü River on NH-29. Officials established an Infected Zone reaching one kilometer from these sites and a Surveillance Zone spanning ten kilometers.
The DC banned the import, export, and transport of live pigs and pork products in these areas. Markets must close. "All pork meat markets and butchery shops within the designated zones have also been ordered to remain closed until further notice."
Farmers must disinfect properties and block visitors from their pens. They must report any strange illnesses or sudden pig deaths to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. Carcasses require safe burial under official protocols. Dumping dead animals in rivers or open spaces is strictly prohibited. The public should avoid buying meat from unknown sources. Authorities will pursue legal action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, against anyone breaking these rules.
