Kohima: Sidewalk band from St Joseph College in Jakhama claimed first place at Phoenix 2026. The group walked away with a 20,000 rupee prize. Model Christian College hosted the sixth edition of this talent hunt on August 29. More than 20 students from Kohima, Chumoukedima, and Dimapur competed for a total purse of 45,000 rupees.
The competition focused on creativity and artistic expression. Students performed dance, solo acts, blindfold piano, band sets, poetry, and sign language. Managing Director S P Francis opened the event with an invocation. Miss Nagaland 2025 Linoka K Achumi delivered the curtain-raiser speech. The judging panel included Ruopfuzhano Whiso, Surhuveyi Tetseo, and Noune Khamo.
Tri-Ds from Kohima College grabbed second place for 15,000 rupees. Kilini P Zhimo took third for 10,000 rupees. During the event, inaugural winner Arenchenla Walling performed her original music. The Gears 5.1 also took the stage. The rock group had the crowd hooked as "spectators singing along" to their performance.
Event coordinator Thethem Hangsing closed the day with a vote of thanks. The show highlighted local student talent across various disciplines.
