Naga Youth Movement Schedules Kohima Protest Over Peace Accord Delays

Kohima: The Naga Youth Movement (NYM) plans to rally at Lok Bhavan in Kohima on October 28. Members demand immediate, time-bound progress on the 2015 Framework Agreement and the 2017 Agreed Position. The group claims they received no response to memos sent to the Governor on July 8 and October 13, despite issuing ultimatums.

NYM member Molung Naga vented his frustration during an October 21 press conference at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur. “The Governor didn’t even grant us an appointment, nor did he provide a reason for denying it,” he said. The group clarified they are not targeting the Governor personally, but rather pushing for the conclusion of peace talks that stalled after 2019.

Internal divisions may be stalling progress. Idizeung Naga addressed social media rumors, stating the movement never formally demanded the Governor resign. Meanwhile, Hiketo Naga suggested that factions asking for too much might be slowing down the Government of India. Ninoto Naga claimed some groups prefer the current status quo over a final resolution.

The NYM sought support from the Naga Students’ Federation, though Atoke Naga noted they never received a response after multiple attempts to contact the group. Kuhoto Naga insisted that the burden rests on the people to force the issue. If the October 28 gathering fails to produce results, the movement may take its protest to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
