Shillong: A special NIA court sentenced Syed Fasiur Rehaman to seven years of rigorous imprisonment on August 30. The judge also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 48,000. Rehaman faced charges for his role in a conspiracy linked to the ISIS terror group. He is the latest person convicted in the Al-Hind ISIS case.
The investigation began after the Karnataka State Police registered the case on January 10, 2020. The NIA took control of the file on January 23, 2020, under the case code RC-04/2020/NIA/DLI. Officials have since arrested 20 people and filed three chargesheets. Haneef Khan became the first to be convicted on July 14, 2026, after pleading guilty. His sentence mirrors that of Rehaman.
Mehaboob Pasha masterminded the operation. He hosted meetings at his Gurappanapalya home in Bengaluru. These sessions focused on plans for targeted killings and inciting communal riots. The NIA states the group aimed to "establish an ISIS or Daish wilayah" in the region. Rehaman took an active part in these meetings. He even bought knives and tents from a Decathlon store to prepare for jungle training camps.
Haneef Khan previously scouted locations in the Chamarajanagar district. He searched for hideouts in the Shivanasamudra and Gundlupet forest areas. NIA investigators are now hunting the online handler who directed the module from afar.
