Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet on Friday, October 16, against three men in a Guwahati special court. They face charges for an August 2024 plot to plant improvised explosive devices across Assam. Authorities found 11 of these devices before they detonated.

Sumu Gogoi, Bhargab Gogoi, and Jahnu Baruah are the three men facing trial. The agency also lists ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah and Aiseng Asom as absconding suspects. The case began at the Dispur police station in Guwahati. Assam Police suspected the banned outfit wanted to wage war against the Indian government. The NIA took the reins in September 2024.

Investigators claim the bombs aimed to kill, maim, and wreck property. They intended to threaten the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of India. A previous chargesheet from June 2025 named Paresh Baruah, Abhijit Gogoi, and Jahnu Baruah. They face prosecution under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

The agency filed a supplementary chargesheet in January 2026 for Bhargab Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both from Dibrugarh district. Agents arrested both men in June 2025. The investigation shows they funded Jahnu Baruah. He reportedly admitted his role during questioning, as he "confessed to planting four of the 11 IEDs recovered by authorities."
