Guwahati: Police arrested Bhavesh Kalita, a suspected linkman for the banned ULFA-Independent outfit, in Tezpur. Officers moved on a tip in the Kochar locality of Milanpur within the Sonitpur district. The raid turned up a .22-calibre pistol and eight live rounds hidden at his home.

Kalita is no stranger to the law. He previously faced charges in an extortion case linked to the rebel group. Authorities are now digging into his current ties to the militants and why he kept the weapon. Investigators stated, "Further investigation is underway to ascertain his alleged links with the banned outfit and the purpose for which the firearm and ammunition were kept."
