Shillong: A special court in Jammu issued a non-bailable warrant for Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed on September 8. This is the second such warrant against the terrorist in two months. The National Investigation Agency secured the order under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Saeed is a resident of Sargodha, Pakistan. He is currently on the run from authorities. The NIA investigation into the arrest of Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat led them directly to the LeT chief. Police caught Bhat at a checkpoint in Pandach near Srinagar earlier this year. Officers recovered a China-made grenade and 15 live rounds from his person.
Bhat faces charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act at the Zakoora Police Station. Investigators later dismantled a terror ring linked to LeT and its offshoot, The Resistance Front. The net caught several local terrorists and two Pakistani nationals who reportedly worked for Saeed.
The NIA told the court that Saeed directs and funds terror groups inside the Union Territory. The agency stated, "Saeed is operating from Pakistan and providing weapons, money and directions to terrorists operating in the Kashmir Valley. The information is gathered that the said terrorist at present is in Pakistan and deliberately evading his arrest to escape the clutches of law."
