Shillong: The Odisha government is cracking down on male employees who ignore court orders to pay maintenance or alimony. Chief Minister Majhi acted after multiple complaints surfaced during state-level grievance hearings. He found it unacceptable for state workers to defy the law while their families suffer. The state will now pull cash directly from paychecks.
"Being a government employee of the state, defying a court order, and subjecting one's wife and children to such injustice is completely unacceptable to the state government," said the Chief Minister. The new system forces the Drawing and Disbursing Officer, or DDO, to act. This official must pull the court-ordered amount from the employee's monthly pay. The state then sends that money electronically to the bank accounts of the wives or children.
The government is linking these court orders to the Human Resources Management System. Automation is the goal. This digital integration aims to force compliance and stop the common practice of dodging payments. Officials expect this move to offer immediate relief to families trapped in legal limbo.
