Kohima College Students Join National Drug-Free India Campaign

Kohima: Kohima College students took a stand against substance abuse on August 7. The college NSS Cell hosted the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat and Yuva Connect programme on campus. Participants gathered under the theme, Empowered Youth, Drug Free India, Strong Nation, Bright Future.

Youth Icon Flora Kent administered a formal drug-free pledge to the volunteers. They vowed to build a drug-free society. Kent highlighted the dangers of addiction during the event. She noted, "The biggest loss caused by addiction is that it doesn't just take away one’s health but it take away their future." She urged students to prioritize their health and help those struggling with substance use find rehabilitation.

The Government of India launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on August 15, 2020. Current data shows the campaign reached 29.26 crore people, including 11.17 crore youth. More than 1.67 crore students across 1 lakh institutions have taken the pledge. Additionally, 28.30 lakh people have received treatment through 730 facilities.

Pradeep J, the District Youth Officer for MY Bharat in Kohima and Wokha, explained the role of his organization. MY Bharat serves as a technology platform for youth aged 15 to 25. It links them with government, industry, and NGOs to boost civic engagement and leadership. Over 2.2 crore youth are now registered on the platform.

Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru called for smarter life choices. He emphasized the need for constant awareness regarding substance abuse. The program featured screenings of the MY Bharat, Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, and various anti-drug activities. NSS PO Zavikhoto Phinyo introduced the guests. NSS PO Khekali Sema chaired the meeting, while student Hichulo Magh offered the final vote of thanks.
