Kohima: The Naga National Council and Federal Government of Nagaland observed their 80th Independence Day on August 14. Leaders used the milestone to demand solidarity across the region. They want the people to set aside internal divisions.
NNC/FGN president Sukhai Awomi honored the courage of the forefathers who fought for the national cause. He insisted that their sacrifices define the collective responsibility to protect Naga heritage and dignity today. Awomi urged the public to respect cultural diversity while holding onto their shared identity. He sees the anniversary as a bridge to the future. "This 80th Naga Independence Day should serve not only as a commemoration of our past but also as a renewed commitment to the generations to come," Awomi stated.
Fellow NNC/FGN president Tokuho Swu also shared his respects with Nagas living at home and abroad. He pointed to the determination of ancestors who stood firm for political rights. Swu encouraged younger generations to take up the mantle. They must protect the peace and values passed down by their elders to ensure a prosperous future.
