Kohima: Nagaland marks the 80th Independence Day this August 15. The state-level function begins at 9 a.m. at the Nagaland Secretariat Plaza in Kohima. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will hoist the National Flag and take the Rashtriya Salute. State police, paramilitary units, Home Guards, ex-servicemen, and NCC cadets will provide a Guard of Honour.
District and sub-divisional events follow a similar protocol. Deputy Chief Ministers, Ministers, and Advisors will preside over flag hoisting at those local venues. The Department of Information and Public Relations confirmed that every event adheres to the sequence prescribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The official schedule includes singing Vande Mataram, raising the flag, and playing the National Anthem. The Chief Minister will deliver an address before the crowd enjoys a march past and various cultural programs. The Department of Information and Public Relations stated, "When Vande Mataram is sung, members of the audience are required to stand to attention, as is done during the National Anthem."
The Home Department encourages all citizens to attend these local celebrations. For those unable to reach the capital, the state-level event will stream live on the official DIPR Nagaland YouTube channel.
