Kohima: The Jalukie Pumling Youth Organisation is putting pressure on contractors to finish the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana road project. The stretch runs from Jalukie Town to Kamdi Bazaar. Work has stalled. The monsoon rains have turned the unfinished road into a wreck, leaving commuters and villagers struggling daily.
JPYO president Azuna Hiekha says the agency responsible for the project has "significantly delayed the completion of the project." The damage hits Panjang, Jalukie Ram, Jalukie Kam, Beisumpuikam, and Samziuram. It also blocks access to the Veterinary College and the ZBCC Prayer Centre. Students and workers are stuck.
The group wants action now. They are calling for the agency to lay Granular Sub-Base material along the road within two weeks. The drainage system is failing, too. Sections of the current setup overflowed during recent rains, flooding the route and causing more structural rot.
The organisation demands a better drainage system to stop the damage. Officials have been warned. If the contractors ignore these demands, the youth group says it will be "compelled to take its own course of action in the larger interest of the public." Patience has run out.
