Kohima: Stakeholders gathered in Wokha this Wednesday to address the stalled Humtso-Elumyo road project. The road falls under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Attendees included PWD Sub-Divisional Officer Er Chandemo Tungoe, contractor representative Tsenpo Murry, and members of the Humtso Village Council and the Humtso Village Youth Organisation.
Government officials sanctioned the project in March 2024 with an 18-month deadline. It is currently on its second extension. Workers have finished earth cutting, side drains, Hume pipe culverts, and protection walls. Critical work like Full Depth Reclamation, Plain Cement Concrete, and bituminous surfacing remains untouched. Heavy rain, machinery shortages, and mechanical failures caused the delays.
The department set a new goal to finish the road by March 2027. Tsenpo Murry promised that work would resume immediately. The Humtso Village Youth Organisation wants a usable road before the upcoming Christmas holidays. The group voiced support for the project, stating: "The youth organisation also acknowledged the department and contractor for addressing local grievances, reiterating its full cooperation to ensure seamless road connectivity for the residents of Humtso and Elumyo villages."
