Agartala: A Rs 280-crore Indo-German initiative is changing the economy in North Tripura and Dhalai. The IDG-CREFLAT project operates under the state Forest Department. It targets rural jobs and skill building. At a ceremony in Agartala, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma handed out seed money. A total of 360 collectives, including 180 self-help groups and 180 common interest groups, each received Rs 1 lakh.
This injection totals Rs 3.6 crore. "This financial support will expand income-generating activities and empower rural families to stand on their own feet," Debbarma stated. The project also prioritizes youth employment through active driver training. The first 40 men earned their licences. Another group of 40 is currently training. The Minister praised the handmade bags produced by women in the program.
Debbarma noted that Tripura supports 54,000 active self-help groups involving 4.86 lakh families. The state has already moved Rs 79 crore in revolving funds and Rs 715 crore in community investment funds to these groups. Officials including PCCF R.K. Samal, Subrata Choudhury, Chaitanya Murthy, Dr. K. Shashikumar, Dr. Honnareddy N, and Dr. Wangdup Bhutia attended the event. Project CEO S. Prabhu and Dr. Vincent Darlong detailed the goals of the initiative, which include boosting incomes for forest-dependent families. Awards were given to staff and community workers to close the event. Debbarma also visited a photography exhibition at the Agartala City Centre later that day.
