Kohima: Keystone Education Society hosted a vocational and livelihood awareness camp in Dimapur on August 8. The event aimed to bridge gaps in employment, financial inclusion, and independent living for Persons with Disabilities. State Commissioner Tongpang L Jamir opened the event, demanding better access and inclusion for all participants.
Technical sessions tackled the nuts and bolts of career planning and banking. Cheenu Singh of the National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled outlined specific career pathways. Bikash Rai and Alila Ozukum from the State Bank of India explained how to access credit for self-employment. Yimok Phom from the District Rural Development Agency detailed support available through the National Rural Livelihood Mission. "The initiative focused on enabling participants to explore opportunities for skill development, employment, self-employment, entrepreneurship, and independent living with dignity," organizers stated.
The afternoon featured hands-on workshops and demonstrations. Jan Shikshan Sansthan showcased training in embroidery, tailoring, and IT. Zeliang CodeTech displayed digital tools meant to foster independence. Local entrepreneurs Inaholi Zhimomi of Craftycrochet and Tasensola Imsong of The D Baker shared lessons on building small businesses. Attendees included representatives from the Deaf Biblical Ministry, Exodus Disabled People’s Organization, Prodigals’ Home, and Angel Home. Interpreters provided support in Indian Sign Language and American Sign Language to ensure everyone could engage with the speakers.
