Kohima: The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy fired a letter at the Nagaland Public Service Commission on August 18. They want answers. The committee claims the commission overstepped by packing premium posts in the 2025 NCS, NPS and Allied Services Examination with Backward Tribe candidates. They argue these specific allocations blow past the legal 41 percent limit for total reservations.
Math tells a messy story. The commission assigned three of six Extra Assistant Commissioner slots to the BT category, hitting 50 percent. They gave two of three Deputy Superintendent of Police posts to the same group, landing at 66.67 percent. Block Development Officer spots followed the 50 percent trend. The committee noted these figures, stating the allocations "appear to result in the proportion of reservation under the Backward Tribe category exceeding the prescribed overall reservation limit of 41% across all categories."
The committee demands the NPSC produce the exact rules used to set these quotas. They insist there were no backlog vacancies to justify such spikes. The group now wants to know if the commission calculates quotas per post, per service, or via total cadre strength. They also asked for a full disclosure of roster positions. The committee says they need this transparency to stop the policy from becoming lopsided in small recruitment batches.
