Kohima: The Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) just fired a warning shot at the state government. They submitted a formal memorandum to the Chief Secretary and the Minister of Higher Education opposing a specific demand from the All Nagaland Government College Teachers Association (ANGCTA). The forum wants Point 9 of the ANGCTA charter, which pushes for the regularisation of guest, adhoc, and contract teachers, completely scrapped.
This is a fight for the rules. The NNQF argues that the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) must remain the only path to a job. They claim regularising current contract workers would kill the credibility of the Combined Educational Services Examination. It also cheats qualified aspirants out of their chance to compete. The forum called the ANGCTA demand "wholly unacceptable" for the state.
The group claims many current contractual roles were filled without public ads or competition. They view this as backdoor entry into public service. The memorandum demands the government fire the 147 contract assistant professors currently in place and immediately create new posts to replace them. They also want a full review of all past appointments made outside of standard recruitment procedures.
The forum is not backing down. They warned that if the state tries to bypass the NPSC, they will launch statewide protests. They pointed to their past success in fighting the regularisation of 147 assistant professors and librarians. As the NNQF stated in their memorandum, "Public employment is not a privilege to be regularised, it is a constitutional opportunity to be earned through merit, transparency and fair competition."
