Guwahati: Digboi police intercepted a white Hyundai i10 on the Digboi-Duliajan Road Thursday. They stopped the vehicle at Balijan Gaon. The car carried two men. Officers found 3.134 kg of suspected cannabis stashed in two packets weighing 2.078 kg and 1.056 kg.
Police arrested the occupants, 55-year-old Akon Hazarika and 25-year-old Biplab Boro. Both men live in Betoni Gaon under the Duliajan Police Station in the Dibrugarh district. Authorities seized the vehicle, two mobile phones, and Rs 2,750 in cash along with the drugs. A case is now open under the NDPS Act.
Digboi Co-District Superintendent of Police Himangshu Gohain confirmed the department maintains a firm stance against the narcotics trade. "We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and anti-social elements," Gohain said.
Officer-in-Charge Inspector Pranjal Chetia stated that his team is hunting for the rest of the supply chain. Police are currently tracing where the load originated and its intended destination. They suspect the haul links to a wider inter-district trafficking network.
