Guwahati: The Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP) is taking the fight to gas agencies. The organization's Dhubri District Committee wants the district administration to force delivery crews to weigh domestic LPG cylinders at the customer's door. This would put an end to the delivery of underweight gas canisters.
District president Binoy Bhattacharya led a delegation to submit a formal memorandum to the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner. They handed the documents to Additional Deputy Commissioner Kartik Kalita. The group cites a Supreme Court ruling, Civil Appeal No. 10126 of 2010, as the legal backbone for their demand. They also point to the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 and the 2011 Packaged Commodities Rules. These laws exist for a reason.
The ABGP wants delivery staff to carry certified scales. They expect these workers to let people inspect the seal and verify the weight before the hand-off. The group also insists that agencies post information about consumer rights and how to file complaints. "These measures would improve transparency, prevent the delivery of underweight cylinders and strengthen consumer protection across the district," the organization stated.
Beyond the weighing issue, the group made a separate request for land. They want space to build a permanent district office. Bhattacharya confirmed that he submitted a copy of this land request to Debamoy Sanyal, the chairman of the Dhubri Municipal Board.
