Imphal: Chongtham Vikram Singh died from massive internal bleeding after a brutal assault in his Delhi neighborhood. The 54-year-old musician confronted a group making noise outside his Kilokari village home at 11:30 pm last Sunday. He paid for it with his life.
Police say the attackers kicked and punched Singh, targeting his chest and abdomen after he collapsed. His son, 20-year-old Yaiphaba, witnessed the attack after hearing his father shout. Singh later struggled to breathe and reached Holy Family Hospital at 1:30 am, where he died hours later at 6:32 am. Forensic experts at AIIMS confirmed the assault caused severe rib fractures and a lacerated spleen.
Investigators arrested seven adults and one juvenile. Bharat Kumar, 19, Pramod, 26, Ramzan Khan, 22, Deepanshu, 21, Mohan Vishwakarma, 32, Vijay, 36, and Mannu, 26, remain in custody. The suspects told police they wanted to "teach him a lesson" after he complained about the noise from a nearby dhaba. While the dhaba drew rowdy crowds, police found no evidence of racial slurs during the fight.
The Sunlight Colony police filed an FIR under Section 103(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Chief of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS, stated the death resulted from physical trauma. The investigation into the incident continues.
