Guwahati: Congress leader Pawan Khera arrived in Guwahati on July 23 to face the Assam Police Crime Branch. He appeared for questioning regarding a defamation complaint filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He landed in the city on a flight from Delhi.

Khera reported to the office after investigators issued multiple summons. He had previously missed three scheduled dates, including a July 17 request. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee stated he missed that date to attend the Chhatron Ki Goonj programme in Bengaluru with Rahul Gandhi. The politician previously appeared for questioning twice before this visit. He holds interim bail from the Supreme Court.

Khera spoke to reporters before entering the building. He explained why he missed earlier appointments. "I had requested the Crime Branch as I was unwell and had party programmes. They accepted my request," he said. He arrived around 11 am to record his statement. The investigation continues while the party leader plans to return to Delhi later today.
