CNTC Demands NSSB Reschedule Exams Over Festival Conflict

Kohima: The Central Nagaland Tribes Council wants the Nagaland Staff Selection Board to reschedule the upcoming Combined Staff Recruitment Examination. The current date conflicts with Ahuna. This is the primary post-harvest festival for the Sümi community. It falls on the same day as the board’s career-defining test.

CNTC representatives argued that the timing forces students to pick between their cultural roots and their professional future. The council issued a statement on October 15. They noted that Ahuna "is not merely a holiday but a deeply cherished cultural and traditional occasion celebrating unity, gratitude and indigenous heritage."

The council acknowledges that the board must keep recruitment on track. However, they insist that administrative planning needs to respect local traditions. They asked the state government and the selection board to move the exam to a different date. The group also wants future academic calendars to reflect all major tribal festivals in Nagaland. They hope officials will listen to these concerns and protect the interests of the student body.
