Kohima: The Naga People's Front (NPF) is demanding an immediate ceasefire between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities. Tension is rising. The party issued an urgent appeal on October 15, warning both groups to stop the violence and embrace restraint.
The NPF described the situation as deeply troubling. They emphasized that the two tribes are not outsiders to one another. The party stated, "Yimkhiung and Tikhir are not two separate peoples — they are brothers sharing the same blood, the same history and the same struggle." Officials warned that internal fighting only harms the broader Naga political future.
Violence threatens innocent villagers and creates dangerous insecurity across border areas. The NPF wants the Yimkhiung Tribal Council and the Tikhir Tribal Council to open formal talks. They suggest using time-tested customary laws to settle the dispute. Leaders must act now. The administration in Shamator and Kiphire districts holds the responsibility to keep order. They must protect lives and property while helping both sides reach a peaceful resolution.
