Kohima: The Central Nagaland Tribes Council and the NSCN (IM) Saramati Region are demanding an immediate end to violence between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities. Tensions exploded recently, leading to deaths, injuries, widespread displacement, and the burning of homes. Both organizations are now scrambling to restore order.
The CNTC issued a statement on October 13 calling for restraint and brotherhood. They emphasized that the two communities share deep blood and cultural ties that transcend the current conflict. They want the State Government and district administrations to provide relief to victims and mediate a path toward reconciliation. "True courage is not found in striking back, but in the strength to protect, to forgive, and to heal," the CNTC noted.
C Süchu Jacob, the Care-Taker and CAO of the NSCN (IM) Saramati Region, echoed these demands for harmony. He warned against further escalation. His office urged tribal bodies, youth groups, and community leaders to block rumors and prioritize the safety of their people. "The safety and well-being of our people must remain our foremost priority," the appeal stated.
Both groups maintain that lingering disagreements should not destroy a shared history. They insist that dialogue, not confrontation, is the only way forward. The goal is to stop the destruction of property and shield vulnerable families from further harm.
