Agartala: Burglars hit a jewelry shop at Kali Bazar in Bamutia. They cut through the tin roof to get inside. Shop owner Amrit Debnath discovered the heist Sunday morning at 8.30 am. The front shutter looked untouched from the street. It was a ruse.
Debnath lifted the main shutter and found his shop picked clean. He checked the showcases and drawers. Everything was gone. The loot included 80 bhori of silver ornaments valued at Rs 3,000 per bhori. The thieves also grabbed cash from the storage box.
Debnath surveyed the damage. "After checking properly, I noticed that the burglars had tried to break the locked door at the back of the shop. When they failed, they cut the roof to enter the shop," he said. The criminals clearly planned the job.
The Bamutia police outpost is now running an investigation. Debnath hopes for quick arrests. Locals and market traders are furious. They blamed poor night-time security for the lapse. Despite having a night watchman on duty, the thieves worked undetected. The community now demands better protection for their businesses.
