Guwahati: Thieves targeted a State Bank of India ATM in Barama, Baksa district, late on October 30. They ripped open the machine and fled with cash totaling several lakh rupees. The heist happened just 20 metres from the Barama Police Station. This proximity shocked locals and raised hard questions about local security protocols.

Baksa Police launched a formal investigation into the break-in immediately. A forensic team arrived at the scene shortly after to scour the site for evidence. Officials have yet to confirm the exact amount of cash stolen during the overnight raid. "Further details are awaited as the investigation continues," authorities stated.
