Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a directive to state ministers today. They must now alert local MLAs before stepping foot in their constituencies. Ministers have been skipping this step, visiting areas without notifying or involving the elected representatives. That ends now.

The Chief Minister sent an official memo to his cabinet. It orders them to invite local MLAs to all public programs and official functions within their districts. Even when meetings are strictly departmental or internal review sessions, legislators deserve a heads-up. Courtesy matters.

This move aims to fix the rift between government leadership and regional representatives. The Chief Minister expects this rule to foster smoother operations. He stated, "The practice would strengthen coordination between the government and elected representatives and ensure the smooth conduct of official engagements." Better communication is the new standard.
