Assam Police Seize Heroin and Cash in Major Dibrugarh Raid

Guwahati: Dibrugarh Police busted a drug ring Friday night, seizing 1.35 kilograms of heroin and Rs 14,06,600 in cash. Officers tracked the stash to a Bolero pickup truck and a home in Tingkhong, near Naharkatia. The heroin was hidden inside 107 soap boxes. Police also took two vehicles into custody during the operation.

Authorities arrested Gulapi Gogoi at the scene. The main suspect, Manoj Gogoi, managed to escape and remains at large. Police launched the raid after receiving a tip-off about local trafficking routes. A police official described the bust: "During the operation, 1.35 kg of heroin (concealed in 107 soap boxes), along with Rs 14,06,600 in cash, was seized from a Bolero pickup vehicle and the house of the accused."

The Assam Chief Minister's Office confirmed the news on social media. They called the seizure a heavy hit to the regional narcotics network. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma vowed to keep the state's drug war moving forward. Police are now pressing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigators are working to track down other members of the syndicate.
