Guwahati: Assam Minister Kaushik Rai hit Fatak Bazar on July 17 to crack down on price gouging. He warned local traders to stop jacking up prices on essential goods. The Food, Public Distribution, and Urban Development Minister spent the day scouting the market to check stock levels and costs.

Recent heavy rains broke the supply chain, causing minor price bumps. Rai said he understands the weather caused issues but warned against exploiting the situation. He told shop owners to keep pricing fair and stop hoarding supplies. "The government is continuously monitoring market prices to safeguard the interests of the public. Artificial inflation of prices or creation of an artificial shortage will not be tolerated," the minister said.

State officials and district administration staff joined the inspection. They are watching supply lines to keep the market running. Rai promised strict consequences for anyone caught overcharging families.
