Guwahati: Assam is reeling from catastrophic floods that have destroyed homes and displaced thousands of families across multiple districts. The state faces an urgent recovery mission. To bolster these efforts, the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, handed a cheque for Rs 25 lakh to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Brig. Polash Chowdhury, Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, and Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita presented the funds.
The veterans did not act alone. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana and author-filmmaker Tahira Kashyap also donated to the Assam Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund. They kept the specific donation amount private. The couple aims to assist families struggling to rebuild their livelihoods after the disaster.
Brig. Chowdhury emphasized the motivation behind the military contribution. He stated, "The donation symbolises the veterans' enduring sense of duty and solidarity with the people of Assam during the ongoing flood crisis." Beyond the financial gift, many ex-servicemen are working alongside civil administration to provide hands-on help in flood-affected zones.
The couple hopes their public support sparks a wave of further donations from others. Khurrana, who acts as a UNICEF India National Ambassador, has a track record of supporting humanitarian crises, including past work with the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund and the Delhi-based group Gulmeher. Chief Minister Sarma thanked the veterans for their compassion and service to the state during this emergency.
