Woman dies in Assam after husband bites her during fight

Guwahati: Safia Khatun died in an intensive care unit on Thursday, July 16, following a violent domestic dispute. Her husband, Yusuf Ali, admits he bit her during the fight. The couple lived in a rented house in the Babupatty area of Sivasagar, Assam. The property is owned by Anjuma Hazarika.

Trouble started on July 13. Neighbors claim a heated argument erupted over an undisclosed issue. Both parties allegedly bit each other during the chaos. Ali, originally from Morigaon district, suffered minor wounds. He told reporters that he was drunk during the altercation. He said, "I had bitten my wife during the fight."

Khatun was Ali’s second wife. His first wife lives in Morigaon. The landlord called an ambulance on Thursday once Khatun’s health took a turn for the worse. Doctors at Sivasagar Civil Hospital admitted her to the ICU before she passed away later that day. Medical staff have not confirmed if the bite wounds caused her death. A post-mortem examination will provide answers. Police confirm no formal complaints exist yet, but the case remains under investigation.
