Guwahati: Darrang police raided the Oyo Nexo lodge in Kharupetia town on Friday. They detained nine people, including four women. The raid followed a tip about an alleged sex racket running on the premises. Darrang Superintendent of Police Sarmistha Baruah confirmed the operation.

Officers found several couples without proper paperwork in suspicious circumstances. They hauled everyone to the Kharupetia police station for questioning. Preliminary inquiries suggest lodge staff supplied two women to two men for a set price and duration. "During the raid, police found several couples at the lodge without proper documentation and under suspicious circumstances," Baruah told reporters.

Investigators combed through the rooms. They found packets of condoms in almost every unit. Police seized lodge registers and legal documents, including a no-objection certificate from the local urban body. They also took a fire safety notice issued by the Fire and Emergency Services department. Independent witnesses watched as officers collected the evidence.

The two joint owners of the lodge are now on the run. Police identified them as Rafik Ali and Banesh Ali, both from Bhakatpara. The investigation continues as authorities hunt for the pair.
